A Toolkit for Community-Police Dialogue

This guide was developed to share best practices from the RAND Corporation’s work in implementing six community-police dialogues across four sites. This guide provides background on the purpose for the development of the community-police dialogue, guidance for planning and implementing the dialogue, and materials to help carry out the dialogue effectively. This project was funded by both the Lenzner-Coleman Challenge Fund for Criminal Justice Research and the American Arbitration Association-International Centre for Dispute Resolution Foundation®️, which focuses on collaborative and community approaches to dispute resolution, as well as expanding access to alternative dispute resolution to support the prevention and resolution of conflicts. This toolkit should be of use to police departments, community members, and civic leaders across the country. In addition, dialogue examples for both youth and adults were developed to help implement these exchanges in your community.
