Melinda “Mindy” Hatton held the position of General Counsel and Secretary to the American Hospital Association (AHA) until 2024.

In that position she was responsible for AHA’s legal portfolio. That included public policy and business litigation in hospital and association matters as well as work on antitrust, Medicare, False Claims Act, federal labor policy, tax exemption and intellectual property matters. During her tenure, the AHA’s legal team won a number of awards and was cited for “playing a critical role in AHA’s high profile advocacy work, numerous influential amicus briefs and opposition to Medicare policies that harm hospitals and their patients.”

Before joining AHA, Ms. Hatton was a partner at Hogan & Hartson where her areas of practice included antitrust, consumer protection, privacy and public policy.  Prior to that she served as Antitrust Counsel for the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Antitrust, Monopolies and Business Rights.  

A native of Virginia, Ms. Hatton earned a BA with high honors from North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina.  She received her master’s degree in public administration from the American University and her law degree from Catholic University of America, where she was the recipient of numerous honors and awards.

Ms. Hatton served on the Board of Directors of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), where she co-chaired a groundbreaking governance committee and served on the Audit and CEO Search Committees.  She is currently on the board of the AAA-ICDR Foundation.
